IMPORTANT! To use this WiFi adapter with Raspberry Pi OS, you will need to install a driver. This adapter will not automatically work without driver installation!

Please note that this driver works as of 18/09/2023 however changes to Raspberry Pi OS or the driver repository are out of our control and may break at any time.

If the on-board WiFi antenna on your Raspberry Pi isn't giving you enough range, this dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz USB 2.0 WiFi adapter is a great option.

The antenna is dual-band meaning it can connect to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz network, and supports the 802.11ac standard (3 times faster than 802.11n networks).

The USB 2.0 adapter features an LED status light and a removable antenna.

Compatible with both the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 3B+/3.

Wanted this to extend the wifi range of my pi4. It's a neat unit, however it wasn't easy to get it up and working, I spent 4 days going round in circles to find, get and install a suitable driver and then another 3 days getting it working. I'm new to astroberry but surely it shouldn't be so hard, definately not plug and play even after following the product installation guide on the pihut site.

Linux drivers for this adapter are not available without kernel recompilation. Wouldnt recommend as there are similarly priced adapters which will work with standard kernels without any additional effort.

It is possible to get this working on the pi OS 5.4.83 using the brektrou/rtl8821CU driver. However, some tweaking is needed to get this to compile.

I was a little concerned about the ou of date drives as I wanted to use this on a compute module 4 running ubuntu 20.10 64 bit.. My fears where confirmed when it wasn't recognised however some internet research came up with https://github.com/morrownr/8821cu.git and this worked like a charm.. Its now running ay 5GHz on my local network.. Extremely pleased with the performance of this device.
