Once you’ve mastered the humble LED, moving on to other light sources is a fun next step for any maker.
Electroluminescent wire (EL Wire) is a wire core coated with phosphor, and then covered with a PVC sheath which determines the colour.
It’s low power (around 10mA per metre) and can bend and maintain whatever shape you decide. EL Wire isn’t quite as bright as LEDs but they use a lot less power considering the length of light you get in return.
Adafruit EL wire is great for making Cosplay costumes, wearables, custom furniture and any other project you need to add long flexible sections of funky neon light to!
Important: the wire must be connected to an inverter that provides an AC supply of approximately 100V at 2000 Hz.
