The Grove – 0.54" Red Dual Alphanumeric Display is a 2-digit module that uses 14-segment LEDs to display full alphanumeric characters, not just numbers. Unlike standard 7-segment displays, it can render all letters and digits, making it ideal for more expressive outputs.
Each digit is 0.54" high and uses red LEDs with a brightness of 30mcd, clearly visible from several metres away. The module includes the HT16K33 LED controller, which simplifies wiring by enabling I2C communication. Only four connections are needed—VCC, GND, SDA, and SCL—reducing the I/O pin usage compared to traditional 14-segment wiring.
It runs at 3.3V or 5V and connects easily via the Grove I2C interface. The module is compatible with various platforms including Arduino and Seeeduino. If using multiple displays, external power (VCC and GND) should be provided separately, with SDA, SCL, and GND lines shared with the microcontroller.
