TEMPer USB Sensors are great little devices for getting data logging quickly and easily! They're compatible with most "standard" PC & Laptop operating systems including Windows, and Raspberry Pi!

This is the TEMPer Gold "Original" Thermometer, which features a metal body to detect ambient and device temperature.

Plug it directly into your Raspberry Pi's USB port and follow one of the example code links below to start recording data! To use on a Windows PC, simply plug the sensor in, open up a text document, hold CAPS LOCK and it will start recording data. To stop recording data, hold NUM LOCK!

Please Note. The on board thermometer of this device WILL be (and is designed to be) affected by the temperatures of the driving system if connected directly to that system's USB port. We highly recommend the use of a USB Extension cable to obtain more accurate results if you are trying to monitor the environmental temperature.

TEMPer Gold "Original" USB Temperature Sensor
My goal was to create a program to monitor the temperature of my Windows systems running BOINC. The manufacturer provides no APIs but I was able to assemble a solution using two different python scripts that were posted on the Internet. Now my BOINC systems can run until their temperature reaches the threshold I set and then my script pauses the BOINC service. Once the temperature returns below the threshold it starts up again.

Asked for a credit note so I could purchase something else instead of this 'not fit for purpose' USB thermometer (all in Chinese and won't install), I've heard nothing back from them! Not impressed at al!!

TEMPer Gold "Original" USB Temperature Sensor
worked only for windows, python code provided for linux didn't work (was throwing errors). Windows code was showing wrong temperature (somewhat correlated to external temperature, but seriously offset). Very long reaction time to the change in external temperature. So basically useless.
