The Shelly RC Snubber is an energy-absorbing component that comprises a resistor (R) and a capacitor (C) connected in series.
It effectively mitigates voltage spikes that can occur during the switching of inductive loads (such as fans, motors, rollers etc) providing a short-term alternative current path around the switching device, so that the inductive load is safely discharged.
The RC Snubber can protect sensitive components of your Shelly device from voltage spikes and improve the overall performance and reliability of the connected circuits.
You should connect RC Snubbers in parallel to inductive loads which you intend to switch with Shelly devices. Connect the RC Snubber as close to the inductive load as possible. If in doubt about whether you need to install an RC Snubber or not, read carefully the user guide for your Shelly device.
The RC Snubber is used in common applications with inductive loads, such as:
Note: You may require a neutral wire depending on the Shelly relay device you intend to use with this product. Some homes have neutral wiring at the switch, others only at the device (for example, a ceiling light). Please research the device and your home wiring (safely, see below) before purchasing.
Example of an RC Snubber connected in parallel to an AC motor controlled by Shelly 1PM:
Capacitance | 0.1 µF |
Resistance | 100 Ω |
Power consumption | 1/2 W |
Rated voltage | 600 VAC |
