This is the earlier version of our ADS-B 1090MHz Filtered Preamplifier. We thought we had cleared this stock but then we found a box of these lurking behind the new versions - oops!

The only difference between this model and the new version is:

  • This model has a mini-B USB connection (the new version has USB-C)
  • This model does not have an LED

So we're doing these at a discount to clear the stock. If you're not bothered about USB-style and the LED, you're getting a cheeky little bargain on this preamp!

So...what is it then?

Does your ADS-B setup need a boost? Look no further than our filtered preamps, designed to improve ADS-B Reception! This SAW-based unit is a cost-effective solution to give excellent performance gains.

This preamplifier is compatible with most USB SDR Dongles including our FlightAware USB sticks, and many others such as Airspy, Fun Cube etc. You can power them from either bias tee or a simple USB input using a Mini-B USB cable (not included). Bias tee/USB voltage is 5V max. This filter features female SMA connectors, so you may require an SMA to SMA coupler (or two!) to connect to your devices.

This unit is a small filter and preamp designed to go between a software-defined radio receiver and an antenna. Using a SAW or ceramic bandpass filter and a low noise amplifier (LNA), it stops out-of-band intermodulation while providing additional gain for increased sensitivity. The LNA is before the SAW filter. This particular model is tuned for use with ADS-B frequencies (1090Mhz).

The LNA used is a MiniCircuits PSA4-5043+ which provides at least 16dB of gain @ 1090Mhz. To stop out-of-band intermodulation, a 1090Mhz SAW bandpass filter is fitted. The insertion loss of this filter is approximately 2.3dB, which does increase the overall noise figure of the unit to 0.75dB, which means the overall gain of the unit is at least 14dB. Connectors are SMA female on both sides.
