When you need to measure temperature, the DS18B20 is a firm favourite. Easy to code and with an abundance of examples on the internet, it's a go-to temperature sensor!

This particular sensor is a pre-wired, waterproof version with a DS18B20-compatible sensor in the tip - great for measuring the temperature of liquids, or simply something further away from your microcontroller. These are a digital sensor so you don't have to worry about signal issues over longer distances.

As the coating/exterior is made of PVC, we suggest limiting the submerged liquid temperature to 100°C to stay on the safe side. Don't use it in salt water or other corrosive liquids. Not IP rated or guaranteed for long-term/high-pressure usage.

These sensors are quite precise (±0.5°C usually and can give up to 12 bits of precision from the onboard digital-to-analogue converter.

They use the Dallas 1-Wire protocol, so data is transferred over a single IO pin,  and they're sable with 3-5V systems. Want something simpler than 1-wire? Maybe try the TMP36 instead.

A 4.7K resistor is included to use as a pull-up for fitting between the VCC and data pin

We toss in a 4.7k resistor, which is required as a pullup from the DATA to VCC line. For Arduino-compatible devices, you can get started using the Dallas Temperature Control Arduino library which also requires the OneWire Library.

Specifications

  • Stainless steel tube 6mm diameter by 30mm long

Initally unhappy as order did not have the resistor. After contacting support ressistor was sent and received next day. Very good response, but for that it would have been a 5 star excellent review.

Good little temperature probe, seems accurate enough for my needs. A bit more information would have been useful but this can be found online. Be aware 85C is used as a fault code, this might affect certain setups if you aren't aware that it could be a faulty probe or it could be a genuine reading.

I was browsing for a PT100 sensor module to use for controlling a cold chamber operating between 0 and 2 degrees C and saw this. Given the low cost I thought I'd give it a try as a possible alternative. It was straightforward to wire up and read using an Arduino nano and the recommended library. The nano was programmed using the Arduino IDE v. 1.8.13 running on an Ubuntu 22.04 machine. I tested the sensor in an equilibrated ice/water slurry which gave a reading of 0.0-0.1 degrees C using a calibrated reference thermometer. This sensor read between 0.2 and 0.4 C. That's pretty good for such a low cost device, so 5* from me at least in this temperature range.

Used with Picomite basic, software interfaces easily with it. Just needed another for my hot tub simulator.

Well made with a good lead length and the required 4k7 ohm resistor needed for the Pi. The only issue is the lack of documentation with them and no information on the page as to what wires are, looking elsewhere on the PiHut page the wires are RED = Vcc, White = Ground and Yellow Dq = Data
