This panel-mount cable is great for making USB hosts or (some) client connections with a panel-mount setup. On the small panel-mount side you get a USB C connector, the other end has power, ground and D+ / D- lines. We particularly like that the panel mount part is very small, only about half an inch in diameter, and you get a JST PH cable on the other end for quick integration.
Please Note: Like many USB C cable adapters we've found, the CC lines are not tied to anything so this will not respond properly to USB PD requests. That means it's not great as something you plug a host into, particularly if it's a Mac since those are picky about requiring CC lines. It's much better if you're plugging a USB client into it, where the JST side goes to a microcontroller or computer that provides power and data.
The adapter can fit holes 11mm to ~13.5mm, so you can drill in your wood, plastic, or metal with a common hole-saw or bit, no special shapes or filing are required. Unscrew the plastic nut, insert the plug and re-attach. Ta-da! Now you have a USB C jack and USB C plug for connecting any cable.
It's designed to easily attach to a panel up to 7mm thick (or 0.275"), or as thin as a few mm. Perfect for adding a USB C port to your project enclosure! It also comes with a removable cap to help protect the USB-C port from dirt or grime. We like this plugin, particularly for its solid body and 'forgiving' plastic lip that hides the drill hole.
