Want to keep your Raspberry Pi cool whilst keeping noise to a minimum? Standard fans are great for cooling your CPU, but having them always on can be distracting in environments that demand silence, such as living areas or your office.
This 3-pin software-controllable fan aims to solve that problem. The fan connects to 5V, GND and a GPIO pin (GPIO 14) and, using the Raspberry Pi configuration tool, you can tell your Raspberry Pi to turn the fan on when it hits a certain temperature set by you!
A great upgrade for our Raspberry Pi 4 cooling cases. We also include 4 screws and 4 nuts for adding to your own project enclosure if needed (fixing colour may vary between black and silver).
How to use
Just click the Raspberry Pi icon on the Raspberry Pi OS desktop, then select Preferences > Raspberry Pi Configuration from the menu.
Select the Performance tab, enable the fan and select your fan trigger temperature (currently the minimum is 60°C).

Software-Controllable 5V 30mm Fan for Raspberry Pi
Very easy to install and get setup. Cheap price and very fast next-day delivery.
I bought this because the fan that came bundled with the linked case is always on and too loud. I wanted to be able to have the fan only turn on when the Pi's temperature was high, and it was very easy to get that working. I ran "sudo raspi-config" and set it in the system menu rather than the GUI menu in the instructions.
I was also pleased to find that this fan is much, much quieter than the bundled fan I was previously using (which was annoyingly loud and high-pitched). I can now barely hear it. Great result.

Powerful fan and great control. Would fit as a replacement to Pi mounted cooling, but I used for additional case airflow.

Bought for a Raspberry Pi in the attic connected to an ADS-B aircraft monitor. Its existing low-speed fan which was on all the time worked OK, but the software control fan enables it to operate at full speed during the day when it is hot and shut off at night when it's cooler, to maintain a more consistent temperature.

Software-Controllable 5V 30mm Fan for Raspberry Pi
My non-controlled 30mm fan had been running continuously since March 2021 and was now becoming very noisy.
I bought three software-controllable fans, one as a replacement and two as spares. I am hoping that each one will last much more than two years of continuous use.
Replacement of the fan was a breeze. Setting the Pi to control the fan was very straightforward.

Works perfectly with the Pi in a case.
Had to get the 30mm Fan Grill, as the fan kept catching on the plastic side of my case.
But this paired with small copper heat syncs keeps the Pi Overclocked at 70 Degrees without throttling so it does the job.
