The Shelly RC Snubber is an energy-absorbing component that comprises a resistor (R) and a capacitor (C) connected in series.
It effectively mitigates voltage spikes that can occur during the switching of inductive loads (such as fans, motors, rollers etc) providing a short-term alternative current path around the switching device, so that the inductive load is safely discharged.
The RC Snubber can protect sensitive components of your Shelly device from voltage spikes and improve the overall performance and reliability of the connected circuits.
You should connect RC Snubbers in parallel to inductive loads which you intend to switch with Shelly devices. Connect the RC Snubber as close to the inductive load as possible. If in doubt about whether you need to install an RC Snubber or not, read carefully the user guide for your Shelly device.
Main Applications
The RC Snubber is used in common applications with inductive loads, such as:
Fans
Refrigerators
Air-conditioners
Washing machines
Tumble dryers
Transformers
LED light drivers
Other devices with electrical motors
Note:You may require a neutral wire depending on the Shelly relay device you intend to use with this product. Some homes have neutral wiring at the switch, others only at the device (for example, a ceiling light). Please research the device and your home wiring (safely, see below) before purchasing.
⚠️Caution - Read Before Buying⚠️
Before beginning the installation, please read this guide and any other documents accompanying the device carefully and completely
Danger of electrocution. The mounting/installation of the device should be performed by a qualified person (electrician)
Failure to follow the installation procedures could lead to malfunction, danger to your health and life, violation of the law or refusal of legal and/or commercial guarantee (if any)
Allterco Robotics (makers of Shelly products) and Mann Enterprises LTD are not responsible for any loss or damage in case of incorrect installation or improper operation of this device due to failure to follow the user and safety instructions in the printed guide accompanying this product (also available in the resources section below)
Do not connect the device to appliances exceeding the given max load.
Use the device only with a power grid and appliances which comply with all applicable regulations. Short circuit in the power grid or any appliance connected to the device may damage the device.
Before starting, wire check that the breakers are turned off and there is no voltage on their terminals. This can be done with a phase meter or multimeter. When you are sure that there is no voltage, you can start wiring the cables.
