Our IR-CUT Night Vision Camera features two high-intensity Infrared LED spotlights for nighttime recording with your Raspberry Pi!

This is the standard version with a 75.7 degree Field of View. We also stock the 'B' version which has a 40-degree Field of View.

To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to buy this adapter cable!

To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi Zero, you will need to buy this adapter cable!

The IR LEDs are powered directly from the CSI port, and are capable of lighting an area at a distance of up to 8m! In testing, the best images were captured at a distance of 3m to 5m. The camera also features an adjustable 3.6mm focal length and 75.7-degree viewing angle.

This Raspberry Pi night vision camera uses the same OV5647 as the standard Raspberry Pi camera, and is, therefore, able to deliver a crystal clear 5MP resolution image or 1080p HD video recording at 30fps!

Note: The current version of Raspberry Pi OS does not support auto IR-cut. The config.txt entry as part of the installation is now ignored by the OS. You can either use an older version of Raspberry Pi OS, or attach the camera's control pin to a GPIO pin for code control (see Wiki for more info).

Warning

The LEDs intensity is limited by the Raspberry Pi power supply, please ensure you have an adequate Raspberry Pi power supply installed. LEDs running at full intensity can get hot, please take care during prolonged use.

Installation

The IR LEDs can be bolted to the body of the camera using the included bolts. This connects the 3.3V supply to the boards and secures them in place. If you need to adjust the ambient light threshold (to change when the infrared LED's toggle), there is a tiny adjustable potentiometer on each LED board, you can turn it to change the threshold. Please ensure any fitting or adjusting is completed prior to plugging the device into the Raspberry Pi and switching it on.

Please follow this guide on how to install the Raspberry Pi Camera for details on how to set the board up!

Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP
Very good, came neatly packaged and arrived quickly. Not set up the camera yet but assembly and attaching it to the board is easy. Only criticism, which I don't think is Pi Hut's fault, the camera doesn't have great instructions for hooking up the IR cables for turning it on and off. It might be obvious to do it but I've not figured it out yet. Anyway, great service and will happily use again!

Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP
Excellent bit of kit - I am using it to monitor a bird nest. Please do note that sometimes the filter gets stuck. You just have to toggle it with a GPIO pin. (You need to solder the GPIO control cable for the filter separately.) There are reports on the Internet saying that this camera's design is out of Raspberry Pi's specs - it draws too much current. I haven't noticed this problem so far. I would put this one a cheap Raspberry Pi just to be on the safe side. I am using it with Raspberry Pi Zero W.

Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP
I bought this to set up a simple security camera with a Pi 4. It has taken me quite some time to realise that the IR cut can't be software controlled on a Pi 4, so now i have quite a bit more work to do. In it's current state, you can't use the Automatic Brightness setting on Motioneyeos as it causes the image to constantly adjust the brightness levels.

Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP
This is a really good night vision camera. Just set it up with a Pi like a normal camera. It takes clear photos in the day as normal but in complete darkness it works wonderfully. Two things to watch. Firstly be aware that the IR lights do have a range limit and secondly watch out if trying to use it through a window as you may get glare messing up the photo.

Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP
The camera has a good quality picture and attaches nicely, however this particular edition isn't automatic and won't detect darkness on its own. This means coding in when it gets dark and then using one of the GPIO pins to output the high signal to activate the IR Filter. Failing that you end up creating another small circuit to detect when its dark. There is another edition which has a light sensor on it the same as the Infrared LEDs and will automatically cut over the IR Filter when it gets dark enough.
