The Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 NoIR is the latest entry in the Official Raspberry Pi range of camera modules, offering a new 12 Megapixel Sony IMX708 image sensor, powered autofocus, improved low-light sensitivity and HDR (High Dynamic Range) support for your Raspberry Pi projects!

To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to buy an adapter cable!

To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi Zero, you will need to buy this adapter cable!

This NoIR version is infrared-sensitive with no InfraRed (NoIR) filter on the lens, which makes it perfect for shooting Infrared photography and taking pictures/video in low light (twilight) environments. For night photography, you'll need to flood the target with infrared light.

The new Camera Module 3 is available with a standard 75° or wide-angle 120° lens (select version before adding to cart), giving you more options for your specific project needs. We also have a standard version which is better suited for daylight photography.

The module is capable of 4608x2592 pixel images and 4608x2592 @14 FPS/2304x1296 @56 FPS/1536x864 @120FPS video. When HDR is enabled, the resolution is limited to 2304x1296 @ 30 FPS.

Compatibility (Important!)

Accessories

  • The Camera Module 3 is mechanically identical to the previous Camera Module V2 apart from the front sensor section. The new sensor is larger and may not fit all previous camera accessories

Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 NoIR Wide-angle
I ordered this along with the wide-angle Module 3 and connected it to my Pi 5, intending to use it for security and low-light applications. It is a very capable camera, and I have no complaints, so I'm happy with it. The only issue, which isn't related to the NoIR camera itself, is that I haven't found an elegant accessory to enable the use of IR lights. I do not have a traditional security camera housing because I am not authorised to install one outside of my flat. Given this, I have been looking for an IR bulb array that can be powered by USB or using jumper cables with the GPIO pins, but I haven't yet found something simple. That aside, the camera itself works exactly as expected, and I am happy with my purchase. Cheers!

Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 NoIR Wide-angle
Not used it yet as my Pi 4b+ isn’t playing ball. I suspect it has a faulty USB controller (from new) as it won’t talk to my 3D printer in Octopi and struggles with USB arcade controllers in Retropie. Sorry not much of a useful review I’m afraid.

Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 NoIR Wide-angle
Great camera, plug it in to a Raspberry Pi and it just works. Quite sensitive in low light, especially in bin2 mode, but the wide-angle lens does suffer from vignetting. Also the supplied 15cm cable is quite short so check what length you need before you buy.

I am impressed with the pi 3 noir camera, I connected it to a Pi Zero 2 W and have mounted it in an old CCTV dome camera housing, using a long usb cable for power and connecting over VNC I run some python code to take long exposures of about 20 seconds with a gain of 5 which gives results as can be seen in the pictures. Even with the light pollution in my area (typical urban area in the UK) I am happy with the results.
