This development board from Olimex uses the familiar Arduino UNO form factor but offers vast hardware improvements over the original R3, notably the 32-bit PIC32 chip!
This board enables code development of applications running on the PIC32MX220F032D microcontroller, manufactured by Microchip technology, using the Pinguino IDE.
This board uses a Mini-USB connector, so be sure to pick up a matching Mini-USB USB cable!
Here is a table highlighting the hardware differences between this board and the classic Arduino UNO R3 (the software approach is also different as the Piguino IDE is used with this PIC32 board):
| PIC32-PINGUINO-MX220 | Arduino UNO R3 | |
| CPU | 32 bit | 8 bit |
| CLOCK | 40 MHz | 20 MHz |
| FLASH | 32 KB | 32 KB |
| RAM | 8 KB | 1 KB |
| USB | YES | NO* |
| LOW PWR | YES** | NO |
| GPIO MAX | 40 MHz | 5 MHz |
| ADC | 1.1 MSPS | 15 KSPS |
| DMA | YES 4 CH | NO |
| UEXT | YES | NO |
