The Maker Object is a tiny digital infrared (IR) proximity sensor designed for object/obstacle detection.
The IR signal is modulated at 38kHz making it immune to ambient light, and the sensor has an NPN output with an internal pull-up resistor. Its output is low when an object is detected.
The sensing range is adjustable via the small opening at the front of the sensor, making it easily accessible even when the sensor is mounted on your robot.
Due to its small form factor, the Maker Object can be easily fitted to a tiny robot. The 90-degree pin header is also very handy allowing you to plug the sensor directly to a PCB or breadboard for quick testing.
Despite the compact size, the sensing distance is not compromised. With a maximum sensing distance of 60cm (Black Surface) - 140cm (White Surface), the Maker Object is well suited to various applications such as a sumo robot, obstacle avoidance robot, safety sensor for automatic gates, parking lot occupancy sensor, entrance sensor and more.
