Attach the HiFiBerry Amp4 to your Raspberry Pi and you instantly have a stereo audio system, just connect your loudspeakers! With a power output of up to 60W, a single 12-24V power supply is all you need to fuel both the Raspberry Pi and the Amp4. For 4 Ohm speakers, we recommend a voltage range of 12-20V, while higher operating voltages are advised with 8 Ohm speakers. However, even with 8 Ohm speakers, a 20V power supply is our preferred choice.

The Amp4 not only powers the Raspberry Pi but eliminates the need for an external 5V power supply. It is designed to work seamlessly with speakers of 4-8 Ohm impedance, supporting sample rates from 44.1-192kHz (16-32bit). For enhanced capabilities, consider equipping the Amp4 with the DSP add-on board, enabling advanced digital signal processing.

In case your software doesn't recognize the Amp4 as an output option, utilize the HiFiBerry DAC+ software driver, as the Amp4 essentially functions as a DAC+ with an integrated power stage.

The Amp4's integrated voltage converter is robust enough to power even the latest Raspberry Pi 4. However, it's important to note that it isn't designed for additional power-hungry USB devices or other hardware. While low-power devices like mice and keyboards pose no issues, the system may become unstable if drawing too much additional current from USB ports or the 5V rail on the GPIOs.

Notes

  • Higher operating voltages are only recommended with 8-ohm speakers
  • With 8-ohm speakers a 20V power supply is recommended
  • It is not designed to power additional power-hungry USB devices or other hardware
  • If the software you’re using doesn’t provide the Amp4 as an output option, you should use the HiFiBerry DAC+ driver as the Amp4 is a DAC+ with an integrated power stage.
  • There is no need to add an external 5V power supply to the Raspberry Pi

Features

  • Stereo DAC with sample rates up to 192kHz/24bit
  • Up to 2x30W output power output
  • Uses a single external power supply 12-24V (see below) to power the amplifier and the Raspberry Pi
  • No soldering, comes as a pre-fabricated kit, just plug it into the Raspberry Pi.
  • Can be extended with the HiFiBerry DSP add-on
  • Comes with all components required to mount it.
