Traditional soil moisture sensors are prone to corrosion with a limited lifespan regardless of measures taken.

This capacitive soil moisture sensor features no exposed plating and uses capacitive sensing to detect soil moisture. The result is a much more robust sensor without the usual corrosion worries!

The sensor has a built-in voltage regulator that supports 3.3V, meaning it can work with a 3.3V development board as well as 5V. To use this with the Raspberry Pi, an ADC (analogue to digital convertor) will need to be used (such as an ADC HAT) to convert the analogue signal from the sensor.

Sensor appears to work well but there is no data sheet link so no reference data giving expected output voltage ranges for Dry, Moist, Wet with respect to supply voltage.

Great easy to use moisture sensor. From what I can tell so far should last longer than the two prong versions. I’ve got it hooked up to one of the ADC pins on a pico as part of a simple pot plant auto watering system.

Arrived on time, as always excellent service from the pi hut. Sensor works really well and reacts quickly. Looking to add as part of a home monitoring capability for some house plants. Kids loved this product and helped create the test circuit this evening. Had the sensor read out every second and by introducing water from the bottom, the sensor reacted nicely.
