This board is an adapter that allows you to use Sparkfun Qwiic and Adafruit STEMMA QT devices with the Bi2C connection available on many recent iLabs Challenger feather-format boards. Learn more about Bi2C here.
The adapter is very simple and simply contains the required connectors for the different systems.
When connecting Qwiic or STEMMA QT peripherals to a Bi2C-equipped microcontroller, the flex cable connection must be straight, i.e. the flex cable must be turned the same way on both boards. For instance, if the blue stiffener on the cable is facing down towards the board on the MCU, it must also face down on the adapter board.
If you are attaching Bi2C peripherals to a Qwiic or STEMMA QT board, the connection needs to be flipped. This means that if the blue stiffener on the cable is facing down towards the board on the adapter board, it must face upwards on the Bi2C board.
We really like the possibilities that the combo of a powerful Challenger board + this Bi2C adapter + the huge range of Qwiic/STEMMA QT sensors and devices offers. The ability to use such a thin flex cable through enclosures and other areas opens up these device ecosystems to new opportunities.
The Bi2C (Bus I2C) concept is a spin-off from the existing Groove, Stemma and Qwiic ecosystems where we use an FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) instead of normal threaded cables to create the connection. This means that we can get away with connectors that have 0.5mm pitch which makes them super thin and compact. Read more about Bi2C here.
