The Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 is a compact Wi-Fi development board with fast USB programming, built-in battery charging, and full Arduino IDE support—perfect for portable IoT projects.
Feather is Adafruit’s lightweight, portable development board platform—thin, powerful, and designed to make battery-powered projects easy. The Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 brings Wi-Fi into the Feather ecosystem, combining an ESP8266 module with built-in USB support and battery charging in a single, ready-to-use board.
At its core is the ESP8266 Wi-Fi microcontroller, running at 80 MHz with 3.3 V logic. This chip integrates a Tensilica processor and a complete Wi-Fi stack, making it an excellent choice for Internet-connected projects and IoT development. Programming is straightforward using the Arduino IDE, and the board also comes preloaded with the NodeMCU Lua interpreter for those who prefer Lua-based development.
For fast and reliable programming, the Feather HUZZAH uses a SiLabs CP2104 USB-to-Serial converter, capable of upload speeds up to 921600 baud. Auto-reset is built in, so there’s no need to manually toggle pins or press reset buttons. Compared to common alternatives like the CH340, the CP2104 offers better driver support and stable operation at high speeds.
Designed with portability in mind, the board includes a connector for 3.7 V lithium polymer batteries and onboard battery charging. It can run directly from the micro-USB connector, or switch automatically to USB power when available while recharging the battery. This makes it ideal for projects that need to move seamlessly between desk and field use.
Each Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 comes fully assembled and tested, with headers included so you can solder them on and plug the board straight into a breadboard. LiPo battery and USB cable are not included.
