The Raspberry Pi TV HAT is a DVB-T2 Digital TV receiver add-on for the Raspberry Pi, compatible with all 40-pin Raspberry Pi boards (with headers soldered).
The Raspberry Pi TV HAT allows you to receive digital terrestrial TV broadcast systems, which include DVB-T and DVB-T2 on a Raspberry Pi. This means that you can receive and view TV on a Raspberry Pi or create a TV server that allows you to stream received TV over a network to other devices (including PCs, tablets, smartphones (via apps), media centres and more)
The TV HAT can be used on all Raspberry Pi boards when running as a backend (server for other devices on the network). The TV HAT features a Sony CXD2880 TV tuner supporting DVB-T and the second-generation DVB-T2 TV standards.
Performance when receiving and viewing TV on the Pi itself can vary, and we recommend using a Raspberry Pi 2 or later for this purpose.
The TV HAT does not support ATSC, the digital TV standard used in North America.
Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) is the DVB European-based consortium standard for the broadcast transmission of digital terrestrial television. There are other digital TV standards used elsewhere in the world, e.g. ATSC which is used in North America. However, the TV HAT only supports the DVB-T and DVB-T2 standards.
Please note: it is the responsibility of the end user to ensure that they have the necessary permissions / license to receive broadcast television in their country
