This is a dual-band (5GHz/2.4GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac USB WiFi adapter for the Raspberry Pi, offering a fast secondary network option and AP mode for creating your own network with your Raspberry Pi!
After experiencing some driver issues with our previous Realtek RTL8811cu USB adapters, we spend a lot of time testing different USB adapters and chipsets to find a reliable option that works with the Raspberry Pi without the need for 3rd-party drivers - and this is it!
This USB 3.0 dual-band USB WiFi adapter uses the MT7612U chipset, which has drivers included in Raspberry Pi OS along with a reputation of working very well with the Raspberry Pi. Use it with the USB 3.0 ports on your Raspberry Pi for the best performance.
We've found it ever-so-slightly outperforms the onboard WiFi on Raspberry Pi 5 in terms of range, and it's ideal for setting up your own network (AP mode) -which can easily be achieved via the Raspberry Pi OS GUI (super-simple guide coming soon - it's easier than ever!).
Works plug n' play with every model of Raspberry Pi (those with a full-size USB port).
Raspberry Pi not included.
Just pop the adapter into a USB port on your Raspberry Pi (ideally USB 3.0) and the built-in drivers in Raspberry Pi OS should pick up the adapter immediately. Select the WiFi icon on your Raspberry Pi and you'll now see two WiFi interfaces available! If you're using an older Raspberry Pi 2 (or earlier) without built-in WiFi, you'll just see the one interface.
