Good things come to those who wait, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to the Pineboards HatDrive! PoE+. It’s a top-mounted Power over Ethernet HAT+ for the Raspberry Pi 5, utilising the PCI-E interface to combine convenient power and connectivity with the option to add fast NVMe SSD storage (SSD not included).
Full PoE+ support (up to 25 Watts) means that you can give your Raspberry Pi 5 the full 5V 5A that it demands, and speaking of which, there’s no need to do anything to enable that. During the boot process, it will be detected and prevent USB power from being limited.
With both PoE+ and an M.2 M-Key connector on board, you don’t have to worry about choosing one over the other. You can utilise the convenience of Power over Ethernet whilst still using high-speed boot storage over an M.2 2230, 2242, or 2280 NVMe drive.
We sourced a high-quality PoE module for this board - manufactured in the UK - and put it through some extreme workloads for extended periods to ensure no surprises when you throw this into your home lab.
