The first time you soldered up a surface mount component you may have been surprised "These are really small parts!" and there are dozens of different names too! QFN, TDFN, SOIC, SOP, J-Lead, what do they mean and how can you tell how big they are? Now you can have a reference board at your fingertips, with this snazzy PCB reference ruler.

Measuring approx 1" x 6", this standard-thickness FR4, gold plate ruler has the most common component packages you'll encounter. It also has a font size guide, trace-width diagram, and a set of AWG-sized drills so you can gauge your wire thicknesses.

Revision History

As of August 2nd, 2024, we're now shipping v2 which is basically the same thing as the original but Inches are marked with 1/10" rather than the more common 1/8". The centimetre side is still 0.1cm marks.

Adafruit PCB Ruler v2 - 6"

An incredibly useful item for PCB design. Up until now I've been using a set of component footprints printed out on a piece of A4 paper but this is far better and is always at hand. Looks absolutely gorgeous with the gold plated finish on black. Definitely 10 out of 10. Will be buying these as gifts for friends and colleagues.

This ruler has cool factor and nerd appeal....and 126 gallons of it @that! Take it from me, the TRUE enjoyment of this lil piece of nerd americana is to hold it in your hand. I am NOT kidding. But it, it's not expensive, and tell me if I'm right. Go to EVERY nerd in your office.....hand 'em this....make 'em hold it for a sec....then they start looking at the details and the measurements and the awesomeness that otherwise wouldn't have been possible without a lil bit of nerd americana.....I lerve it!
