  • Great introduction to electronics and programming – ideal for beginners and huge fun.
  • Full and comprehensive instructions with pictures, videos and text available online at the Pi-Cars Factory – check them out.
  • Learn about electronics as you build your Pi-Car from the Tool Kit.
  • Once built, follow the Driving Lessons on to learn the Python programming language and Scratch as you interact with your Pi-Car.
  • Complete beginners can do this to learn electronics and software programming and have fun at the same time.
  • Includes radio controlled car which can continue to be used as a normal rc car even when converted.

Please remember:

  • You will need to do a small amount of soldering to construct this Tool Kit and will therefore need a soldering iron and some solder  – these are not included.
  • You will also need a Raspberry Pi, a screwdriver and AA batteries for the radio controlled car – these are not included.
  • The cars only come in two different frequencies, therefore if two cars with the same frequency are in the same vicinity the controllers will interact with one another.

Any questions just pop a post in our forums

Much more info and what you can do in the ‘Under the Bonnet’ section at

More detailed information.

With this Tool Kit you will be able to construct you very own Pi-Car.

Learn about electornics as you build a Pi-Car with detailed photo and video instructions from the Pi-Cars factory on Once built you can then easily drive it with Scratch and / or Python to begin learning about programming.

It is a fun and interesting way to learn about programming and electronics and once you have mastered the basics you can use the Driving Lessons on Pi-Cars to progress to more advanced topics.

Even when you are through with the Driving Lessons (and you hopefully pass!) Your Pi-Car will still useful as you will be able to do increasingly advanced things with it.

Your Pi-Cars Tool Kit will consist of:

  • Radio controlled car
  • Breadboard
  • Jumper leads to connect to the GPIO pins on the Raspberry Pi
  • Jumper leads to connect to radio controller
  • Jumper leads for interconnections on breadboard
  • Resistors and transistors required for breadboard

The radio controlled car we are selling is different to the one used in the pi-cars tutorial.

When you come to the section "Soldering the wires onto the test points on the controller" please refer to this image to see which points to solder your wires to:

You will also need to modify the controller casing slightly by cutting a small section out to allow the wires to come through:
